State Immigration Legislative Updates - Week of June 14, 2010
Pennsylvania bill banning construction jobs for undocumented immigrants passes House, heads to Senate. Last Tuesday, the Pennsylvania House passed the Industry Employment Verification Act. If companies choose to employ these workers, they will lose their government contracts and licenses.
Texas Republicans voted at the GOP Convention to place immigration at the top of the priority list for lawmakers. They voted Saturday to propose that state law require police to verify that people arrested on suspicion of a crime are in the country legally. They also voted to oppose amnesty, except in cases of military service.
Tennessee sends immigration legislation to Governors desk. A bill requiring jailers to determine immigration status of inmates was sent to the Governor’s desk on Wednesday after approval by both houses.
